Mak's Chee Wantan

We spotted this place many times in One Utama but I have always labeled it as expensive Wantan Mee place so I never stepped into the restaurant till today when we ran out of new places to try. After all, it was already 5pm and too late to cook dinner at home. We also saw some Video online about the wantan mee with prawn roe.

Wonton Dumpling Dry Noodles (RM 17.90)

This is something you would order if you want the best of both worlds, the wantan mee and the prawn wantans as well as prawn sui kow with black fungus. The noodles was totally dry, unlike the usual wantan mee which is served with dark sauce except this was dry so that we can feel the fragrance of the prawn roe. The prawn dumplings are to die for, absolutely heavenly. Quite worth the price since they gave about 6 dumplings instead of 4 pieces like in other fine dining wantan mee restaurants.

The Cursory Rice with Lard (RM 14.90)

This lard rice is something very simple with 2 eggs and also luncheon meat (something I wouldn't order myself) as I rarely eat luncheon meat.

Total bill came up to RM 38.05 including 10% service charge and 6% Service Tax

The Zun Express

We were shopping at Midvalley Food Fair and run out of ideas of where to have dinner and ended up eating for the first stall at a restaurant that we passed by many times but never tried as we thought they sell only soup. There was some dinner sets as below which comes with brown rice green tea or buckwheat tea and also daily special dessert which was surprisingly of high value whereby it was chrysanthemum jelly with wolfberries.

Yimuchao Braised Wine Chicken (RM 19.80)

The chicken has strong wine smell albeit cooked in different way with lemongrass.

Abalone Sauce Yee Fu Mee (RM 18.80)

As usual I was attracted by the word "abalone" , not realising the word sauce behind. Anyway, though I was not having a good appetite, I thoroughly enjoyed this noodles especially since it was laden with a lot of vegetables, prawn, fish.

Double Joy

I run out of place to eat in PJ, like seriously! So I went to google to find other places that are affordable for CNY and found this place called Double Joy in SS3. The place is already opened for 40 years whereby the head chef is also the owner.

Wintermelon Beancurd (RM 16)

The portions are quite small but the dishes are just amazing. The beancurd looks like it's homemade and so soft. The wintermelon is made in such a way that mum used to not like it but it tasted good

Champagne Pork Rib (RM 25)

The pork ribs are cooked in a sauce that tasted like lemon sauce and so tasty. Superb, juicy and succulent.

Fish Head with Taucheow (RM 45)

The fish is the only expensive item here. The sauce is salty but they gave the good fish parts.

Plain rice costs RM 1.50 each and the Pu Er tea was RM 6 nett. I am definitely coming back here again to try the other dishes.

Dragon Leaves (RM 16)

After having 3 dishes, I kind of still feel hungry and ordered the dragon leaves since the famous dish is pak choy with minced pork whereby I am not a big fan of minced pork.

Alu-alu Kitchen

Alu-alu Kitchen has a variety of food all made with organic vegetables, farm fed chicken and seafood. Every year we come here for reunion dinner.

Kailan with Beef

The kailan is just normal but the difference is cooked with beef which reminds me of some Malay cuisine.

Cuttlefish with Chilli

The cuttlefish is not like what I thought to be the squid or sotong. The sauce is almost like nyonya sauce and quite tasty.

Steamed Prawns

The steamed prawns were so tasty, fresh and juicy. Luckily we didn't cancel the order which I almost did as it was rather expensive.

Fish Bak Kut Teh

The lai mang fish is used to cook bak kut teh which made it very sweet. The fish is very fresh as it was still swimming in the aquarium.

Wasabi Fried Fish

The wasabi fish was so tasty when I first ate it but this time round I felt like it is too normal and nothing special.

Like to Eat Seafood

I once saw some sort of discount  for crab at this simple restaurant in USJ 1 and brought Jonathan there for his birthday treat by my mother. To our despair, there was no crab on that day. We ordered simple food as Jonathan didn't appreciate the fine dining I brought him during lunch.

Tofu

Tofu is always ordered in replacement of protein as I don't  eat rice or have carbs at dinner.

Butter Pork Ribs

The deep fried pork ribs was cooked in milky style with buttermilk, which was so tasty.

Deep Fried Baby Octopus

The honey glazed deep fried baby octopus with pineapple were delicious and crispy and sweet.

Steamed Fish with Soy Sauce

This is cooked the Sabahan way which is with soy sauce but not what I fancy. The fish is tender and fresh.

Teo Chew Lor

After watching The Greatest Showman movie, we went to Teo Chew Lor to have a small meal before our dinner steamboat party later.

Mixed Organ Soup (RM 11.50)

I really mixed organ soup everywhere I go. It is quite tasty. There was kway chap served too in a bit dark sauced soup. At RM 3, we did a top up of salted vege, half a braised egg and also a herbal tea drink. I really like the sourish chilli sauce.

Lee Hong Kee

One of the reasons we like to come here is due to the slightly more unique food served and even more important, is the affordable price.

This time round, we brought my parents here for their anniversary on Christmas Eve.

Herbal Tea Pot Soup (RM 30)

This is one of my favourite dishes here. It is served really beautifully in a tea pot. The soup is really clear and not oily at all though cooked with pork. The same pot, in a much smaller portion for 1 pax, is sold at RM 20 in The Han Room in BSC Mall.

Braised Dong Po Pork (RM 38) with Steamed Bun (RM 3.80)

I just saw steamed bun in Ippudo recently on 22/12 so I thought of eating it here. The pork is so sinful and oily but the sauce is very thick. Hence, I dared not eat much of it.

Lard Rice (RM 4)

This is served almost like beggar style in a claypot material bowl which is just plain white rice with lard oil on top. Nothing special if you ask me.

Kerabu Paku-Pakis (RM 16)

It was my first time eating paku-pakis cold, like an appetizer with sourish preserved cherry tomatoes too. This is one of our favourite dishes too.

Steamed Flying Fish with Greenish Ginger Spread (RM 34)

I always like to order this because it is mix of sour and spiciness with the tender fish.

The Ming Room

There are many people raving about how good dim sum is in The Ming Room at Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC). I did try to bring my parents here once but there was too long queue that time and we ended up going to Ben's. This time I called in the morning itself to reserve a table but when we arrived early, there was still no table available so we went to Jason's to buy a few danish as we were starving.

I feel that the best item is the siew yoke with crackling skin. The skin is superb and crispy whereas the meat just melts in the mouth.

Jellyfish is one more thing I always like to order but theirs lack the seasoning that I always like.

The deep fried cod fish is unique and tasty, cut into small pieces served with kerabu.

The double-boiled soup served in tea pot was just amazing as it was so full of flavour, refreshing and not oily at all.

I also like the sauce with greenish and sambal style.

The dim sum is not that tasty to me so I wonder why so many people come here as the dim sum skin was too hard and rubbery. There is also nothing special about the dim sum variety here.

The pan fried gyoza is just normal and not that great too.

The chee cheong fan has too thick skin. To me, chee cheong fan is very important for a dim sum restaurant.

Overall, this place is over-rated and the dim sum is seriously not worth eating for the high prices charged. The total bill came up to RM 159.75

Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice

Jonathan's classmate from KK, Eric came to KL for a holiday with his family so we met him and brought him to Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice coffee shop which is nearby.

Claypot Chicken Rice

We ordered the Claypot Chicken Rice which came with Chinese sausages and also salted fish served separately in a small plate. The rice is very fragrant and tasty.

We ordered another claypot chicken rice which comes with a lot of chicken wing and drumstick.

Fish Head Curry Claypot

We also ordered Fish Head Curry Claypot which is also famous here. It has a lot of vegetables like cabbage and ladies fingers.

Wine Claypot Chicken

I really like wine claypot chicken which is also fragrant and delicious.
