Bahtera Santai @ Penang

It was the last night of Alimah and Azlina in Penang and they decided to give mum a treat for bringing them out the entire day so we had Ikan Bakar along the sea. We surveyed every single cafe but some were so crowded that we were afraid so we went to the least crowded one which regretfully, took a long time to serve the food, like almost 30-45 mins! Even the drinks took a long time.

I guess my skin was allergic to beach as I had a lot of mosquito bites every time i go to the beach/forest. Nevertheless, I persisted since my skin was always sensitive anyway.

We were shocked to see the bill, as we thought Malay seafood is normally cheaper. The worst was that we thought we ordered Siakap Bakar for RM30 but it turned out to be Jenahak Bakar which cost RM54! The Sotong Goreng Tepung (Fried Octopus in Flour) cost RM24 which was ok for 6 pieces, few big prawns cost RM34, Kerang/Cockles (RM10) but they were so tiny I could not open it at all.

The solace lies in the tasty food. The entire bill came up to RM134.30 which to me was expensive but they said this is normal price for seafood.

Welcome Seafood Restaurant

On the first night KK during CNY 2018 holidays, after Jeremiah's work, we fetched him and he brought us to Welcome Seafood nearby which was brimming with people.

Black Pepper Crab

Can you believe it that 2 crabs costs RM 30 only? That's the cheapest crab I ever had and with incredible taste.

Paku-pakis with Belacan

When in East Malaysia, never forget to order paku-pakis which is superb here. I like this place because they didn't cook it till it was oily.

Jin Jin Food Lintas (KK)

Ever since I tried Jin Jin seafood in Sept 2017, I never fail to visit this place whenever I visit KK. This is due to the reasonable price and also delicious food.

Fresh Oysters / Garlic Oysters (RM 8 per piece)

I believe this is the cheapest oyster in Malaysia and the price would reduce to RM 6 per piece if we order more than 5 pieces. The oyster today comes in humongous shell and fresh. They just steam it with garlic and cili padi.

Si-Ham (RM 26)

I am not sure how that KK Si-Ham or cockles are so huge and squeezy. It tastes delicious when cooked with Kam Heong sauce.

Perut Ikan (Fish Stomach) (RM 18)

I have never eaten stir fried fish stomach till I come to KK. It seems the locals here like to eat all sorts of pig and animal organs stir fried/deep fried/cooked with soup. They made this really nicely and fragrant with the deep fried garlic on top.

Chilli Crab (RM 83)

The crabs here are just awesome, fresh, tasty and most important for the budget conscious as it is cheap at only 3 pieces for RM 83! The sauce was just perfect as it was thick, sweet and sour at once with a lot of egg inside to make it thick. Though earlier I said I didn't want to eat it, I finally ate all the big claws too.

Here Coconut costs RM 4.30 each and the plain rice costs RM 1.50 each. Our total bill came up to RM 226.40 which was reasonable especially for the delicious, fresh meal especially the crabs!

Lido Square Food Court (KK)

I came here last Sept 2017 and fell in love with the big fresh cockles and ikan bakar so here we are again to indulge in my favourites.

Ikan Bakar

The fish in KK is always fresh and we can have fish with anything from noodles, to baked, grilled, fried, steamed or anything. The grilled fish is just superb. The price is not cheap too at about RM 30.

The same ikan bakar stall also sells slippers lobsters which when I was sceptical about it having flesh, the boss told me to check it out as it was being grilled. It costs only RM 28 for 2 of the smaller ones.

Giant Shellfish

The giant shellfish is so tasty, fresh and succulent.

Pan-fried Gyoza (RM 9)

This is one of the best gyozas in kk, with thinner layer of skin than the one in Hilltop area.

Todak Orang Asli Seafood JB

View of Singapore from JB

During one of the company events which brought us to JB again, Francis, Kenneth, me and some shop staff went to this place which overlooks Singapore, meaning it Singaporeans can cross the bridge and come here to eat seafood at a cheaper price than SGD. After an event, it is quite guilty for me to eat so much at such late hour but then again since it is not every day I get to come here for food and would not know how to come here without the shop manager's guidance, let's just forget it!

Tofu Soup (RM 20)

The tofu seafood soup is refreshing.

Claypot Prawn Curry (RM 50)

We ordered mantou (RM 5)  to be eaten with the prawn curry albeit the curry was a tad too oily. The prawns are very fresh and succulent and juicy.

Steamed Seabass with Soy Sauce (RM 50)

I rarely eat steamed fish at such a late hour but the fish was fresh, soft and just amazing.

Deep Fried Octopus (RM 26)

Francis likes to order fried octopus everywhere he goes whereas I am the opposite and won't order any deep fried items usually.

Chicken with Dried Chilli (RM 14)

This is just so-so for me.

Black Pepper Crab (RM 100)

The black pepper crab is just fragrant, fresh and succulent.

Can you believe it that the entire meal came up to a mere RM 210 when I thought it would have cost RM 400 plus? WOW incredible! It was also surprising that we finished so many dishes at such late hour! Probably because we were too hungry.

Garden Seafood

During our rally in Sungai Petani, I went with the BT Manager Aini to and fro. On our journey back to KL, she brought me to an amazing place called Garden Seafood in Tanjung Malim which is brimming with people when we reached at 7pm. A lot of people come here due to the halal status. Ain said this is one of her favourite places with amazing halal seafood.

I ordered the Mango ice-blended juice whereby the thickness makes us feel so full.

Honey Sotong

The honey glazed fried octopus is just awesome, sweetness on the fried item.

Mantou

The fried mantou with very thin skin was just amazing, so soft and so addictive and incredible when eaten with the Sweet and Sour prawns.

Sweet and Sour Prawns

Ain ordered giant prawns which were succulent, fresh and springy and beautifully coated with egg and sauce.

Belacan Asparagus with Scallops

There were just 4 scallops cooked with the asparagus which I felt was a tad too oily. We were so full by the time this dish came as both of us ate 4 items!

Anyway the prawns are definitely to die for as they were so fresh and succulent.

Three Brothers

We first saw the facebook post from Gourmet Hunter featuring Three Brothers' food and what attracted me was none other than the salmon sashimi so we brought my brother-in-law there when he came to KL for a holiday, on the very day of his arrival.

Salmon Sashimi (Cost about RM 20)

The salmon sashimi, was served in the original plastic plate, which was a disappointment for us Japanese sashimi food lovers. The sashimi was also too thinly sliced. The sashimi didn't even look fresh so this taught me a lesson never to have sashimi in a Chinese cafe!

Fresh Oysters (RM 12/each)

The fresh oysters were huge and fresh and the best was being served with fish roe on top. It was even better when we cook order different flavoured oysters at once for 2 garlic, 2 original, 2 spicy.

Grilled Pork Ribs with Herbs (RM 48)

This is one of the signature items and very sinful with the fats that melt in the mouth. The sauce was incredible with hot fluffy rice.

Deep Fried Sotong with Special Sauce

The sotong is quite tasty with the cheesy sauce accompaniment.

Dragon Leaves

The dragon leaves was a tad too oily albeit done well when mixed with shimeji mushrooms.

NSK Citarasa Market Steamboat

We brought my in-laws here to experience the shopping experience of eating steamboat. I discovered this place when I came with my ex-CG group here for CNY dinner.

On 13 Jan 2017, I discovered that there is fresh oysters here at only RM 11 per piece! The oysters are also imported!

We really like the giant clams at RM 21 for only 2 pieces! Very fresh!

We had 2 promotion set for RM 9.90 each! (see inset photo below) and it came with fried foo chuk, egg, cabbage, fishballs, prawns, fish slice, yee mee...

Me and mum likes to eat fish skin but it was a bit salty. I still prefer the fish skin in KK or Miri!

The Crab with black pepper sauce and glass noodles are just not a good combo which spoilt the good taste of the crab. Probably should not be so adventurous next time and stick with normal flavours!

By now, mum in law had too much crab that she vowed never to have crab anymore! The price is very reasonable at only RM 68 for 3 big pieces!

Crab B

My in laws are crazy fans of crabs simply because, surprisingly, crabs are super expensive up till RM 150/kg in KK! So we brought them to one of the best places for crabs in Puchong area for brunch.

Japanese Snails (RM 18)

This is one of my favourite. I couldn't even remember the last time I had the chance to eat snails. I just learnt that the Chinese word for 'snails' = 'lay'.

The snails are beautifully coated with butter milk which adds to the fragrance, not to mention our diet plan. It also tastes great.

Lotus Leaf Tofu (RM 18)

This is another unique dish here whereby the homemade tofu is steamed in steamer similar with a dim sum restaurant. The tofu is placed on a piece of leaf and steamed together with pork meat.

BBQ Pork Ribs (RM 58)

This is one of the best pork ribs sold in a Chinese restaurant. The flesh and fats are sweet too.

XXXL Crab (RM 153)

This is the signature dish here. The crab is so fresh and when peeled, the entire piece will come out instead of in bits and pieces. We also ordered it to cook in curry, the signature cooking style which tasted awesome with the mantou (RM 5).

Honey Lime (RM 4.50)

All of us were feeling heaty and had a bottle of Honey Lime each which is was made just nice and not too sour.
