Han Woo Ri

It was my half day leave to settle some stuff together. After finishing it at 9.30 am on last Thursday, we went to USJ to mail the documents to KK and after some rest, came back to Taipan USJ to try Han Woo Ri Korean Set Lunch. Since it was lunch time, we had to waste RM 3.50 for parking at the terrible paid parking area to save time hunting for a car park. Han Woo Ri is located on the last floor on top of Old Town in USJ.

Kimchi Pork Soup (RM 18.90)

The kimchi soup here is one of the best, and can beat the one at Daorae which is a bit too salty for me. I like the flavoursome soup here that we finished every drop! The thin pork slices are used to cook the soup with Japanese tofu, kimchi, cabbage and a lot of Korean glass noodles.

Banchan

The banchan can only be refilled once and consists of typical kimchi, macaroni with mayonaise (yucks), spinach, ikan bilis with peanuts and also sausage with stir fried broccoli and cauliflower. Jonathan's favourite was the thinly sliced omelette with small bits of carrots inside.

Kimchi Fried Rice (RM 18.90)

This is one of the best Kimchi Fried Rice I have ever eaten. The rice is full of flavour of the kimchi and cooked so beautifully. There was a bull's eye egg on top, whereby popping it was great to accompany the rice. A korean cabbage soup is served as a side.

Every set comes with Korean green tea, watermelon and also cold sweet korean barley with red dates which cools off the body.

Home Style Kitchen House

Discovering this is like discovering a gem in Puchong or shall I say, like a dream come true for Assam Curry crazy girl like me? Well, you cannot blame me as I am born in Penang and holds true to my heritage of enjoying Nyonya food. So I jumped at the opportunity to network with my friends and escape the busy working life I have, over a dinner at Home Style Kitchen House.

From the outside, I thought it was a normal restaurant but when I entered, the walls had beautiful black and white paintings of our old architecture in Malaysia. On the ceiling hung antique lamps and fans. The signature dishes on the wall like Kyoto ribs, petai, assam fish caught my fancy.

Garlic Prawn (RM 28 – 8 pieces, RM 38 - Big)

This is one of my favourite prawn dish of the day. The small pieces of garlic is fried till fragrant. I initially thought they were some sort of oatmeals (which doesn't look like it). I just love picking these bits to eat. The prawns were all humongous and fresh.

Fried Baby French Beans (RM 16-Small, RM 18-Big)

This is unlike what is fried at the coffee shop / kopitiam which is fried till too oily. I like the crunchiness that retained accompanied by slices of carrot to add some colour and also the sprinkles of fried minced pork fried till fragrant.

Cheese Scallops (RM 32) -8 pieces

I love scallops so much that I could not help it when I stole 4 pieces! The scallops were fresh and succulent and not too thinly sliced. It also didn't have the organs part attached. It is baked till fragrant.

Cheese Prawns (RM 28–8 pieces, RM 38-12 pieces)

This is another favourite of mine. They are clever not to cook it till super cheesy. In fact, the cheese is just enough to envelop the cheese yet not to cause the prawn to swim in a pool of cheese that would not do well for Asians.

Chilli Pepper Octopus (RM 22)

When this first arrived,  we were fooled into thinking that they were deep fried prawn mantis. This is not too bad and doesn't have the rubbery or hardness that most octopus has when fried.

Pumpkin Octopus (RM 22)

This is my top favourite food of the night. I fell in love with the thick gooey pumpkin that covered every single deep fried octopus evenly. The pumpkin that is sweet is a great balance to the hard and slightly salty deep fried octopus. I kept throwing so many pieces into my mouth.

Assam Octopus (RM 16-Small, RM 23-Big)

This reminds me of the assam curry mum used to cook for me with a lot of gravy, done the way I like it for eating with white rice. There are a lot of long beans, onions and octopus. It reminds of me the red curry albeit much better than the Thai version.

Assam Tilapia (RM 22-Small, RM 28-Big)

The Assam tilapia is totally amazing. The gravy is thick, sour and spicy enough. The fish is so soft.

Crab with Garlic (RM 68 per kg)

This is more towards a huge crowd meal cooked with green chilli and lots of garlic. I like the sauce although it is dry. The crab looks like mud crab and was very hard and of high quality. For the taste and price paid, it is worthwhile.

Sweet and Sour Chicken (RM 15– 8 pcs)

Just when we thought we have finished eating, suddenly this tempting dish that looks much better than the meatballs for spaghetti eaten at a restaurant, were served finally. The chicken was made into balls and then deep fried till crispy before being dipped into the sweet and sour sauce. I could not even believe it when I myself ate this as I normally dislikes anyhing with meat balls.

With the reasonable price, I am definitely making a comeback for the fantastic and affordable food!

Moon Kee

My colleague said he wanted to bring me to somewhere special and it looks so secluded. It ended by being Moon Kee and later on another trip, I found out the mamak place at the corner is actually Baiduri.

Moon Kee is definitely not one place recommended if you are on low budget or don't expect to pay so hefty price for only fish head noodles. There is another branch of Moon Kee in SS2 whereby it was always crowded and one would have to wait for table. This one has no crowd at all so you can come here if you are a big fan. Thank god the sambal is quite ok.

I ordered the Deep Fried Garoupa Fish Milky Noodle (RM 16) which was much more expensive than my favourite Kaki Bola which costs only RM 9.50 per bowl. The deep fried fish is surprisingly served separately and most of it is meaty so if you expect to eat fish head parts like me, forget about coming here.

Penang Food Hunt - Prawn Mee

During my last trip to Penang Island, one of my colleagues in Penang recommended me to great prawn mee in Bayan Baru which is at 888 Coffee Shop, just opposite Sunshine Square. It is opened from afternoon till night. Luckily it was still opened at 8pm when I arrived.

I would testify that this is the best prawn mee I have ever eaten in Bayan Baru! The soup is also thick and spicy enough. You can also add pork leg or pork skin into the soup.

There is only one other stall, selling cheap Lok Lok with great sauces. I ordered octopus, kangkung and cuttlefish.

Naughty Nuri

We have been wanting to eat here for a long time but didn't do it because I thought it would be too expensive and also that BBQ food is too heaty.

Jonathan finally said we should try this though it is a little expensive. So I relented. Anyway, I had always wanted to go there as I missed this place when I was in Bali due to the heavy rain.

We went to Naughty Nuri at SS15 Courtyard which has many other shops and I managed to discover the bookstore, Book Xcess which sells new books for very low price, at only RM 17.90 for most of the books.

There was a queue there at only Naughty Nuri so I wondered what is so great about it. I almost ran away to the Korean Hanbing Dessert place next door when I saw the long queue as I was starving and could never stand queuing for anything in life. But it seems they had a table for 2! Yippee! When another couple was brought to share our table, I willingly allowed it as I did not want others to suffer in waiting.

The place doesn't have much a/c and is open to the open cafe style concept. All the waitresses and waiters could sing and would suddenly sing and dance with tamborine. This makes it more happening.

Naughty Nuri's  1995 Signature BBQ Spare Ribs (RM 45)

The huge ribs are marinated with Balinese spice and char grilled with special rendang sauce served with spring onion and acar-Awak. This is the best ribs I have ever tasted, and even better than Tony Romas or any other place. The meat is also very succulent, tasty, juicy and would any person who hates pork like me, say YES! The portion is also very big to make the price paid worthwhile.

Indonesian Style Nasi Goreng (RM 19)

This is the biggest plate of Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice) I have eaten in my life. Most of the portions are for sharing purposes so don't ever come alone! The fried rice is done with mixed vegetables, onions, egg, cili padi, red chilli and has a bull's eye fried egg on top. Like the usual way of serving fried rice, it comes with keropok. But the BEST PART is the thinly sliced pork Korean Style cooked together. It is just totally salivating!

The fried rice taste so good with the ribs.

There was a promotion of Buy One Free One for the Fizzy lemongrass soda which was needed after eating all the meat. A lot of gatherings came here and ate all that with beer.

I would say rarely in Malaysia you find so many Chinese in an Indonesian restaurant besides this place. Even  when we were going off, I saw people queuing up outside.
