B.O.D.

Being the person who is always on the lookout for something unique, and since we have been to ioi Puchong too many times for movies and run out of places to eat there, decided to try to eat near the boulevard and found this corner lot of B.O.D. dim sum, more like a fast food type where they make their own dim sum and freeze it for sale.

The Charcoal Lava buns were quite tasty as the lava runs out hot from the bun.

Even for a non-pau person like me, the pau with meat and celery was quite unique.

Another unique item here is the Giant Loh Mai Kai which came with a lot of ingredients like mushrooms, chicken and also egg.

Later on I found out they have branch in Mid Valley as well.

Sing Pao Dim Sum

I am so happy that the cheapest dim sum in Klang Valley is so tasty and even better than the Hoong Dim Sum at USJ. I wonder why there are so many customers at Hoong Dim Sum when the dim sum costs RM 6 per plate whereas the taste is just so-so with the skin of the seaweed peeling off.

Sing Pau is a 24 hours dim sum place has many varieties and the dim sum skin is so soft, totally unlike my imagination earlier. Despite being 24/7, the freshness of the dim sum is still retained.

They even used quail egg to make dim sum which was special.

The quality of dim sum is measured by the thinness of the skin and how they make the Har Kau transparent skin tasty and soft and thin. How they make the filling is also important. Simple food like siew mai, chee cheong, Har Kau and pau will determine the greatness of the dim sum cafe.

Over here, the small plates cost RM 3.50 and the bigger plates cost RM 4.50. So many people actually come here to takeaway the cheap and tasty dim sum.

So naturally we ordered the Chee Cheong Fan which I initially didn't want to, because I had the impression that coffee shops especially at the side of the road can never make really good chee cheong fan with thin translucent skin and might have too much flour. It seems I was wrong as it was tasty.

The Siew Mai is also ok.

The Loh Mai Kai is very soft with chicken meat and also a half a piece of mushroom.

My favourite is the Seaweed Prawn Dim Sum which is soft enough.

The Har Kau also has small pieces of scallop inside and which made me realize that the Har Kau skill cannot be misjudged.

There is also bacon dim sum is thoroughly steamed.

I also had my favourite chicken leg with my mum. The skin is soft and springy and thoroughly done.

It is obvious that the boss had trained the foreign workers very well.

The whole meal with 8 dim sum plates cost only RM 41 which is quite reasonable for dim sum.

Din Tai Fung @ Gardens

Last Saturday we went to Gardens and was searching for brunch and decided to eat at Din Tai Fung. The food portions here are very small for a high price, but then again, it has a michellin star.

Szechuan Dumplings

My favourite food here is the mixed filling dumplings of prawn, spinach and pork. When they are cooked with szechuan sauce, the taste is simply amazing with the thin skin and also flavoursome insides.

Handmade Noodles (Dry style)

There are minced pork and for the first time, small cubes of tofu and edaname! I rarely see people cook using edaname. I love this so much that I could not stop eating. The noodles are so smooth too.

Glass Noodles with Tofu Pok and Sausages

I ordered wrongly and initially thought this is soup noodles. It taste a bit like what I eat at the hawker stall.

Vegetarian Pau with Mushrooms

The only pau I eat is vegetarian pau and this one is not bad. There was even korean glass noodles inside the mash up.

Xiao Long Pau (Pork)

Since Din Tai Fung is well know for Xiao Long Pau, I just had to try it and it was not bad.

Chinese Tea (RM 2 per pax)

I found a way to have a cheaper way of thinking tea. It's cheaper to drink Chinese Tea than the Pu Er etc tea which costs RM 17.50 per pot. Moreover, it's refillable!

Grand Imperial at Pinnacle, Sunway Pyramid

Dad was thinking of eating Dim Sum so we came here though I wanted to eat steamboat. Dad is not much of a steamboat person as he thinks the food is not cooked enough.

The place is quite a distance from Sunway Pyramid. The short cut which I discovered on my way home is to go up to Pasta Zanmai and then use the specially constructed pedestrian bridge linked straight to Grand Imperial.

There were many people here for CNY lunch. We opted for dim sum. I was a little disappointed by the quality and variety. There wasn't the booth for special dim sum choices cooked by the chef as it was a weekday. The prices here are exorbitant. The steamed peanut titbit alone cost RM 5. Luckily the tea was RM 2 per pax.

Har Kau / Steamed Prawn Dumpling (RM 11)

Just so-so but most expensive of the lot!

Steamed BBQ Pork Pau (RM 8.30)

Mum said it is nice. As I did not try it, I could not give you my personal comments.

Steamed Glutinous Rice (RM 12.80)

The rice is soft but there are only few ingredients like 1 miserable piece of chinese sausage and mushroom.

Prawn Dumpling with Szechuan Sauce (RM 9.80)

This is actually nicely done prawn dumpling (better than har kau) with soya sauce with cut red chillies.

Shanghai Xiao Long Bao (RM 8.30)

This is basically expensive Xiao Long Bao whereby the skin is too hard, tough and not thin and translucent enough. Loses to Dragon-i. Price is still more expensive and not worth it.

La Mian in Szechuan Style (RM 12)

The peanut sauce with la mian is just a weird combination and spoils the original taste of la mian. I thought sze chuan style meant clear soup with chilli oil? Mum said it is ok but I beg to differ, and it would have been better with udon or cheap yellow mee.
