De Canter

I haven't been to De Canter for a long time, like almost 5 years till Training and Event Team (ATM) decided to go there for my appreciation lunch on 19 Dec 2019 with Tang Tat Kim, Noor Jumaatun, Crystal Loh, Shamini, Adam, Baizura and we had a fun time chatting and laughing! Guess I will really miss them a lot!

De Canter is typically a cafe with halal Western Food, most of the food is ok, just need to remind them to not squeeze mayonaise on top of the food. The prices are quite reasonable too.

Here snippets of the food eaten:

Mushroom Soup - quite ok but would be better with bigger chunks of mushrooms

Baked Salmon Bruchetta with cheese -  this is quite tasty and worth the RM10

Tofu Sumbat - Never thought it taste good in a cafe like this!

Baked Mussels - over laden with mayonaise otherwise would be good

Deep Fried Shrimps - I kind of like the crisp

Wheelers

It was the first time for me to have a meal with Auntie Mei Lay in Penang after hearing mum talk so much about her as she is one of her best friend! When I met her, I totally found out why Mei Lay was so fun, as she is so young in her mindset and takes photos like a pro, finding the light very skilfully, knowing how to pose well, get the most suitable background, and is such a foodie, dines with style in an instagrammable way (meaning, totally the same version of me). She was also outgoing! The only difference with me is that she could go to the same cafe 4 times in the matter of 2 months' of Nov-Dec!

The interior has 2 storeys in the old colonial houses in Penang Georgetown, with the upstairs having a lot of natural air streaming through the glass in the roof that allows for photography. The ground floor looks like a typical bar.

The food is also quite reasonable and has a good mix of pizza, burrito, pasta, big breakfast etc. The only downside is the carpark beside charges RM8 per entry for the night.

Lavender Matcha Freddo 

This matcha latte is not bad as I did remind them not to put in too much milk. They also used Matcha powder but I didn't taste any lavender at all. It was unique at being shaken cold so quite worth the price of RM14.90.

Coffee Espresso Chicken 

This is my favourite of all the food eaten as they serve genuine cup of espresso as the dip for the grilled chicken which was cooked in cream sauce earlier.

In House Sandwich

It looks quite tasty and big portion. It was supposed to come with fries but we requested for more salad which they served with balsamic sauce which is healthier.

Salmon Steak
The grilled salmon came in quite a large portion and beautifully made till juicy and not grilled till dry.

Turkey Ham Strips 

This is another of my favourite snack or titbits albeit a bit unhealthy as deep fried till super crispy. After all, we always want to have tasty food to make it worthwhile for the calorie intake.

Carbonara 

The carbonara was pretty with the bull's eye egg in the middle on the thick sauce with ham and also mushrooms. Simple but you can see the ingredients in the eye which makes it appetising!

As for my OOTD, it was quite wrong to wear my new dark brown dress as it kind of blended into the wood.

STG Tea House Ipoh

STG Tea House has always appeared in any browser search, being one of the beautiful cafes in Ipoh and indeed you would be mesmerized when you get here! 

It is a colonial bungalow turned into a restaurant/cafe! From the greenery in the garden (exterior) to the interior, it was superb in terms of showcasing the immaculate British details.

The interior had a wall full of STG tea canisters and the dining area features British decor that was wondrous, reflecting an era forgotten. 

They also have an upstairs floor with lots of dining space, and also few function halls for private functions. 

Empress Tea

There is myriad range of tea, from British to local Sabah tea. The Empress tea cost less than RM20! 

Lamb Shank 

Since we have had too much chicken during the Ipoh food hunting trip, I opted for lamb which was their bestseller. It was very tender and came with mashed potato and stewed carrot and potatoes like most lamb shank. The gravy was thick. 

Chicken Roulade 

Initially I almost ordered Chicken with Tea or Chicken with Orange but then, those could have easily been cooked myself so I finally went for chicken roulade which was the right choice, tender, juicy and unique as it came with spinach inside, something I don't know how to make myself. I even preferred this to the lamb shank.

Tiramisu 

The tiramisu mousse was very unique as it was served with kahlua cleverly and neatly laced in between. It was simply sinful and pure bliss for those who love alcohol in their desserts.

Our entire meal came up to RM120.65 including taxes which is quite reasonable for sophisticated restaurant that even the Datin/Datuks come for dinner. The pasta costs RM 20++ till RM 38 for the seafood ones. 

They even have high tea sets which one could try as the desserts are proven to be as tasty as they look.
