Fujiyama

Starling Mall in Uptown is a new mall in PJ area so I thought of visiting the mall during the public holidays. Since there is not many restaurants that are special inside the mall, we ventured out and found Fujiyama which happened to have the chef who opened Yama & J in Jaya One, owned by my friend's ex-boyfriend's brother  but closed down.

I was shocked there is very cheap prices for the lunch menu especially for the sushi and bento sets.

Teppanyaki Seafood Bento Set (RM 13.50)

This is well value for money set with the seafood inside which was so tasty!

Sushi Heaven

It was like sushi heaven for me when I could order whatever I wanted without bothering about the price tags as I had Inari Sushi (RM 1), Scallop Sashimi (RM 6.80), Chuka Kuraage (RM 3.80), White Tuna Mentai Sushi (RM 2), Hokkigai Sashimi (2 pcs for RM 5.80), Saba Sushi (RM 1), Inari Ebiko Sushi (RM 2), Inari Tuna White Sushi (2 pcs at RM 2), Inari Tuna White Sushi (RM 2), Salmon Mentai Sushi (RM 2), Tamago Sushi (RM 1) and Red Tuna Sashimi (2 pcs for RM 6.80)!

Each sushi and sashimi is made by the chef one by one!

I was like having a bottomless buffet sashimi and sushi at such rock bottom prices that I swear I am definitely coming again!

Can you believe it the entire lunch only cost us RM 54.80 on a Saturday for sashimi / sushi induced lunch? Seriously unbelievable when you see the RM 1-2 price tags thats cheaper than Jusco's sushi! I definitely bringing my brother-in-law here when he visits and we are coming back for the cocktail prawns.

Backofen

Backofen is truly an affordable dining place to bring the entire family so that's where I brought my parents when they came to find me in August.

Mixed Platter (RM 27)

This was what my mother wanted to order the last time so here it is. It contains mashed potatoes, fried dory fish, grilled lamb and mushroom chicken chop and sausage. But the deep fried fish is too soggy and the food is not up to mark.

Escargot Mushroom Spaghetti (RM 23)

This is on my wanted list ever since my first time here so I ordered it but mum wasn't fond of it because it was too creamy and cheesy for our taste. You would like it if you are into carbonara.

Mushroom Soup (RM 10) & Asparagus Soup (RM 5)

The price is a tad too pricey for mushroom soup compared to the goulash I had previously which had more ingredients and a lot of beef inside. The soup to my disappointment, is more like what we have from Campbell's soup or Pizza Hut and too plain and without the mushroom pieces to be seen. Sa,e goes for the asparagus soup.

Grilled Lamb (RM 18)

In the end, the grilled lamb is still the champion as it comes in big portion and tasty enough.

Apple Strudel (RM 5)

The first time I came here, they ran out of Apple Strudel so I was lucky they have one left today. The strudel skin is thin enough and the apples are big enough.

Midsummer Night Cafe

Since I have a busy week ahead and still want to relax in a nice cafe, we found this cafe, which has bloggers raving about, so we headed there at 5 pm for high tea cum dinner. It iwas our first time coming to this area to eat.

It looks exactly like an old shop house with the old-fashioned windows and many print outs of films on the wall and also records.

Most of the customers are older than the two young owners with older aunties sitting around chatting over tea and also udon.

Spicy Udon (RM 10) with Additional Fish (RM 5)

There are so few food to order in the limited menu that I stared at it for a long time and finally decided to order the spicy udon which was not spicy at all. I added Shinsamo which was the best of the meals there as it was nicely marinated and grilled. The entire fish is so tasty and one could not stop eating it. The portions are very small hence the price of RM 10.

Egg Rice (RM 9)

Jonathan ordered one of the famous rice dons which is the egg rice which is very simple with a half-boiled egg and lots of bonito flakes. A bit too simple for him who is a very cincai person.

Pineapple Coffee (RM 12)

I took the risk to drink it at 5 pm despite having insomnia as priority is to try the recommended drink. Actually it is just pineapple juice iced cubes placed in their own filtered coffee. Eventually the bitterness of the coffee is mixed with the sweetness of the pineapple.

Summer Soda

Jonathan ordered this, another recommended drink but it was just like any normal flavoured soda.

All in all, Jonathan said we are not coming here again as the portion is too small and too simple for us.

After our meal, we saw another restaurant opened exactly below Midsummer, but in a slightly more spacious place and looks really brand new and with a wider selection of menu like western food.

Gao Ren Guan

After dropping off my mum and her ex-colleague, Diana at the bus station in Sunway Pyramid, we went to Subang Jaya looking for food to eat. We discovered a place I have never been and decided to try the food there.

Fried Glass Noodles (RM 14.90)

The glass noodles was quite tasty with a lot of ingredients like bean sprouts, mushrooms and even big prawns.

Braised Stuffed Bean Curd (RM 16)

This restaurant is quite famous for stuffed bean curd or brinjals. The beancurd skin is quite thin hence tasty in this way.

Piccoli Lotti Gelato

Every girl can never run away from ice-cream or gelato otherwise we will never be considered sweet things! Same goes for me. The moment I spotted this word "gelato" in the signboard, while we were finding a car park and find the location for 'Kompassion', I remembered to make that our Saturday dessert spot.

The waitress kindly let me try many flavours so there goes my diet where I have chosen to order 2 scoops for RM 13! One scoop costs RM 8 whereas having a cone costs additional RM 1.

There were a bunch of unique flavours like durian, pulut tai-tai (which tasted like kaya), lemon custard, affogato almond crunch (which taste more like caramel than affogato), pistachio (which was my other favourite), calamansi, hazelnut and so many more which attracted me.

We finally chose Belgian Chocolate and Arabian Beans flavours which were a spendid combination of both of my favourites - coffee and chocolate infused gelato!

The interior is just white and clean with wooden chairs. I wondered why there are no sofas but later discovered that most of the customers just walk in to buy 1 scoop and walk off.

The portion is quite big and bigger than the Ice-cream Bar so I kinda regretted ordering 2 scoops as it left me feeling guilty of the fat I am bringing to myself.

Kompassion Thai Fusion Food

Food hunting always require a big budget so I always have to look for place that serves tasty food at a reasonable price which is not easy to find, if you are like me, a person who also wants the ambience together for the same price.

My sudden urge to eat Thai food today and then the continuous googling finally ended up with an incredible place called 'Kompassion' in Damansara Kim.

When we entered the cafe, I was pleasantly surprised to see the art and interior which looks almost like a Western restaurant rather than Thai.

The menu at one glance, looks expensive whereby most of the specials cost RM 38-60! Then thank god, I saw the last page shows a set meals which cost only RM 13.90-RM 15.90 per set including drinks of either iced lemon tea or lemongrass drink with fruits! They even serve us with complimentary chips for munching, compared to the chinese restaurants which usually charge for this.

That is very shocking for such a beautiful and sophisticated dining place. The garnishing was very good and the rice dishes are all made in the shape of square with side dishes nicely placed.

This cafe is also quite instagram friendly. With the reasonable priced and tasty food, quite a lot of customers patron it on a Saturday. The entire bill only came up to RM 34.75 including GST and 10% service charge!

Phad Thai Prawn (RM 13.90)

The Phad Thai is unique as it is made from linguini and very flavoursome and tasty. There are fresh bean sprouts, peanuts and chilli powder. The prawn is also quite big for that price.

Green Curry Fried Rice with BBQ Chicken (RM 15.90)

The rice is made in square shape and bursting with green curry flavours which was fried together with the rice. The BBQ chicken is also quite tender. There was my favourite kerabu mango as side dish too with delicious original Thai sambal!

A very contented guy
