Shunka Japanese Family Restaurant

Every weekend I have a huge craving for Japanese food, to the extent that I am thinking of what will happen to my craving when I am pregnant? Hahaha .... perhaps even more sashimi craving?

We were heading to One Utama to watch Smurfs at 4 pm later but we were too hungry to go all the way there for lunch so I suggested saving money by having lunch at Aman Suria area coffee shop. But when we reached there, I noticed that Shunka which I have been for a food review with Angeline, had a small promotion.

Set F - Fried Spicy Pork Soba Noodles with Apple Salad

Initially I did not know what to order as all the prices in Shunka menu has increased compared to the food review i had. So finally I ordered something spicy and less carbs, or so I thought. The noodles turned out to be too oily for me. The spice was a lot till it tasted almost like mee mamak. I disliked minced pork so I picked every pork out. I did not like the mayonaise overladen apple salad and thank god the chef graciously changed to a salad for me.

The set came together with chawanmushi and miso soup too.

Saba Shioyaki (RM 10.85)

Jonathan ordered this to accompany his Kimchi Fried Rice (RM 10) which was served in a very unique fashion, in a stone pot! The kimchi taste was not much but at least it was fragrant and tastier than my noodles.

House of Seafood

It seems that the only time I have been here was during the crab promotion of 3 crabs for RM 38 and they had the entire restaurant crowded and many queuing up for it when it first opened. I fondly remember the waiters wearing crab caps. When I came again on 8 April, it seems the entire place is empty even on a weekend at dinner time.

We noticed there was a promotion of Smoked duck for RM 13.80 so without hesitating I went in, though it was more expensive than the RM 5  price tag during its opening. After all, I am a big fan of smoked duck.

The smoked duck is as tasty as I remember it to be with broccolis and also Japanese sesame sauce liberally sprinkled on top.

Mongolian Chicken Set with Rice (RM 15.80) was very fragrant. The mongolian sauce covered the chicken thoroughly. It was tasty with white rice.

Niko Niko Onigiri (Puchong)

Boy was I glad that during a rainy day on 1 April (shall I say April Fool's Day?), we stumbled upon Niko Niko Onigiri in Puchong Boulevard area which serves Japanese food set at very cheap price, that I could not believe my eyes when I saw the menu!

Teppanyaki Lamb (RM 14.90)

I thought rice was fattening so they allowed me to have mashed potatoes but little did I know they served me 3 big scoops of vanilla ice-cream look alike mashed potatoes laden with mayonaise which was even more fattening! So I only ate 2 of them!

The teppanyaki is so fragrant and superb and it tender enough. It also comes with one big portion of bean sprouts cooked teppanyaki style. I think eating teppanyaki here is more worth the price than eating the same bean sprouts at Hilton PJ.

The same set also came with chawanmushi and fruit.

Curry Katsu Rice (RM 12.90)

The curry is really thick and delicious. It contains 1 scoop of mashed potato and also a lot of chicken and potatoes inside the curry, even more than the usual curry katsu. The karaage chicken is crispy. Seem like the owner is very generous in portioning.

This is definitely one of the restaurants besides Menya in Sri Petaling that I will make multiple visits.

Soup Restaurant

I was so happy to see the Amway shop managers as it has been a while since I saw them so we I followed them for dinner at The Soup Restaurant at Jaya Shopping Centre. Glad I went as I could also try the food at The Soup restaurant, one place I rarely would have ventured as I used to think that it is not worth the high price paid for soup at such expensive place. It seems they have dinner sets at about RM 20 ++ which was quite delicious.

I can never imagine ordering what to me, is just steamed chicken that I can eat at the chicken rice stall, but then again this is tasty and the ginger and chilli sauce accompaniment were superb!

Plain and simple pork chop styled rice

Steamboat herbal soup. Now this made the difference and we couldn't get enough of the sweet soup!

Food Lover

I thought I have been to all the restaurants in Happy Mansion area but it seems that the other day when we wanted to try out the small Thai stall there, there was no available table so Sharine, me and Zinyi ended up going to Food Lover restaurant which happens to have set lunch for seafood marinara spaghetti, kam heong lala or siam laksa at merely RM 16 ++ per set ...slurp!

We could have either orange juice/mango juice/iced lemon tea!

Each set, for a first, compared to all conventional set lunch, comes with a mini Magnum of your choice! See how cool is that! Most of the time people serve scoop of ice-cream only.

Green Curry Udon

The  udon is just superb as it is covered entirely with thick green curry and also a lot ingredients like prawns etc.

Seafood Marinara

Sharine ordered this which is well worth the price paid with his huge prawns and octopus! I didn't order this because I had spaghetti buffet last weekend.

Menya Zen

I decided to treat mum Japanese lunch at Menya Zen and also coloring her hair at Hair Color Expert.

L4 Kakiage Set (RM 18)

This is actually shrimp and vegetable tempura set with my mum's favourite deep fried pregnant fish / shisamo. We also like the mayo mashed potato with carrot. The set is well worth the price paid for only RM 18 for so many things included.

L10 Soba and Fried Salmon Set (RM 18)

This is even more worth the price paid for deep fried salmon and also amazing soba.

This is one of the few restaurants that I have been twice.

Assam Fish Sauce

Ever since I found these amazing sauce, at Assam House, Puchong, it became very handy every weekend whenever we want to cook anything.

Being a big fan of fish, obviously this present of sauce is the best souvenir ever!

Here I am steaming Golden Pomfret fish with the assam sauce which I also added garlic, sliced onion, tomatoes, ladies fingers and the secret ingredient of assam boi.

Other fish that were steamed with this sauce too:

I also stir fried sliced ladies fingers with spicy dried shrimp sauce which, recently, became a bonus addition for frying my favourite vegetables and also for marinating chicken!

Some of the effects of these 2 sauces are scrumptious sauces :
