Boat Noodle

I guess some people like you and me are crazy over Boat Noodles. I still remember when there was boat noodle craze in town, I even went all the way to Empire Damansara to try the famous Boat Noodles which came in very small portion. Nowadays, these boat noodles have mushroomed everywhere. The concept is whereby we order many small bowls of noodles of different flavour for the sauce, and then we can finish each bowl in one minute. Each bowl can cost only RM 1.90 ++. Over here, the portion is slightly more so every bowl costs RM 3.80. We came her for dinner before our office event at PWTC. We ended up ordering so many bowls of noodles to try all the flavours of Beef Thai Egg Noodles, Beef Thai Rice Noodles, Beef Springy Noodles etc and also because the portion is small, so this concept is quite good for making money. I liked the rice noodles the most as it is more like boat noodles to eat this version.

Sangkaya Steamed Bread (RM 6.90)

This is the first time I eat steamed bread in a cafe as I rarely order pau or any steamed bread outside as I am not a big fan of bread. It tastes like what you eat at home when you were a kid, dipping warm bread into kaya.

Som Tam Thai (RM 8.60)

The som tam thai is spicy and sourish like how most som tam are. It is quite tasty for me.

Frame Thai

I am the sort of person who go for any original Thai food cooked by Thai people so naturally Frame Thai was in my mind ever since I read about it in the blog. I tried entering Frame Thai in Happy Mansion with my colleague Sharine but the place was overcrowded that time. One fine day, a week after Sharine's birthdate, I decided to come here finally and also to give her a birthday treat. The place is brimming with officer workers on a weekday.

Pad Thai (RM 10)

One of the try-it-and-ban the cafe once and for all item is Pad Thai which I am very particular. It was not that oily and served in sizzling hotplate. The unique part is the use of omelette as the outer layer. The pad thai was not hot enough, not spicy enough too.

Seafood Fried Rice (RM 12)

The rice was weird that it was not fried hot but was cold when it arrived. They used purplish brown rice. It was our first time eating cold fried rice and swore never to order this again.

Grilled Pork (RM 8)

We ordered two sticks of BBQ pork which was tender and tasty. We also added Thai spicy sausage for RM 5.

Kakigori

I passed by this dessert cafe twice and this time round, with my classmate, Samantha, I swore I had to try it. After all, it is the craze of shaved ice. The cafe is very small with limited space to walk and also very few varieties in the menu.

I came here wanting to try the dessert set unfortunately it is not available in this branch but only the one in Pavillion.

Hojicha (RM 17)

The kakigori shaved ice is not cheap and most of them range between RM 17-20. It seems that this is a money-making business as they just need to invest in the hi-tech ice machine and add ice, and some flavouring. Hojicha has a separate cup of ocha to be poured on top and a chestnut as the top. Nothing much inside except a whole lot of ice to share over chit-chat session.

Melon Pan - Matcha Soft Serve (RM 13)

I am a big fan of crispy pan that is something like Beard Papa so naturally I ordered this. The pan is crispy pastry with the green tea soft serve sandwiched in between.

Uptown Damansara Hokkien Mee (Kuchai Lama)

My father is a big fan of Hokkien Mee (the KL style) so he wanted to eat this before leaving KL tonight, here we are at this place, which I haven't tried before too. Here is the verdict.

Hokkien Mee (RM 9.90)

This is so far the star item here as the kuah or the gravy is very thick and black and there are a lot of vegetables, small prawns and cabbage. I shall refrain from eating much of this as it is cooked using pork lard oil.

Canton Fried Ying Yong (RM 9.90)

The ying yong fried bihun was just too hard that we had a hard time cracking open. The hor fun was too dark coloured too so I wondered how much kicap they used. The gravy was also too thick thus not good.

Hokkien Yee Mee (RM 9.90)

This is the only other noodles I eat but it is tasty. I think yee mee never fails me.

Fried La La (RM 20)

This is the other most expensive item here, again cooked with dark sauce till it makes me feel guilty for eating it.

Roasted Duck (RM 18 for normal)

We all loved the roasted duck which is tender and juicy. We even had the luck for drumstick though we had to pay RM 20 for it but it was worth it.

Fluffed

I always wonder what is so great about Fluff after seeing so many Facebook posts about this place so finally we came here with my colleagues since we were still full from brunch. My colleages Kenny, Celine, Jessie and her boyfie happened to come here on 20 Dec which is before the Christmas holiday weekend.

Ferrero Rocher Bar (RM 14.15)

Jessie said that she would order this every time she comes here. To me, it was just normal and not as rich as I thought and lacked the ferrero rocher taste inside.

Alice in Wonderland (RM 20.75)

I suggested this place instead of Molly's because it serves waffles, supposedly the most popular here. Hence, I ordered the famous Alice in Wonderland waffle which is made out of house blueberry ice-cream with blueberries and strawberries (regrettably sour). I added RM 0.95 for the charcoal waffle as I didn't like plain tasted waffle.

Rose Latte (RM 12.26)

I was torn between rose latte or lavender latte which looks good too but finally ordered rose latte which is popular here though I think I would love lavender latte too with its flavour. Kenny said girls like me are easily cheated as they probably only spread some rose petals and declare it rose latte.

Latte (RM 11.32)

Kenny is always loyal to latte and nothing sort of sweet.

Taiwan Recipe

After a meal at Ippudo Ramen, we went to Taiwan Recipe for taiwanese food as we were already hungry after a lot of walking. I almost didn't want to come here again because the spicy ramen soup wasn't spicy at all the last time I ate here.

Bubble Red Tea (RM 4.90)

The iced tea was very flavoursome and good to have the bubbles too.

Stewed Pork Rice (RM 12.90)

The pork was very fragrant and tender, so tasty in the mouth compared to places like Formosa and the Taiwanese cafe at SS2. The price was affordable as well.

Smoked Duck Mantou (RM 2.95, 50% discount over normal price of RM 5.90)

I was suddenly crazy over mantou but when the mantou came, it was not so tasty and not good when combined with smoked duck which didn't have much sauce.

Ippudo Ramen

During our research for Osaka, we chanced upon this place in google search and I thought that since we have the same branch in Malaysia in Gardens Mall and Pavillion, why not give it a try here after all it is cheaper in Malaysia.

The most worthwhile is to have the lunch set menu available only on weekdays excluding public holidays between 11 am - 5 pm. After all, any ala-carte ramen costs more than RM 30.

Full Bowl Set (RM 33.90)

I ordered this with the appetizers like edaname, salmon sashimi and chicken karaage with mayonaise and tobiko. The karaage is still crispy and warm.

We ordered the Ippudo Kuro which was very tasty with a strong garlic flavour. I just could not have enough of the soup as I am a big fan of garlic. It also has barbecued pork slice with black fungus, bean sprouts and a lot of spring onions.

We just add RM 6.90 for 1 lemon mint soda and also dessert of the day which happened to be caramel ice-cream which was not bad as well.

Half Bowl Set (RM 30.90)

This also comes with an appetizer set which are chicken karaage, takoyaki with katsuo boshi and also bonito flakes and california roll with mentai mayo and ito togarashi.

For the ramen, I ordered Akamaru Shinaji which has 2nd level of spice. Soup wise, once you have tried the Ippudo Kuro, this pales a little in comparison.

Difference of full bowl and half bowl is not much:

Lee Hong Kee

One of the reasons we like to come here is due to the slightly more unique food served and even more important, is the affordable price.

This time round, we brought my parents here for their anniversary on Christmas Eve.

Herbal Tea Pot Soup (RM 30)

This is one of my favourite dishes here. It is served really beautifully in a tea pot. The soup is really clear and not oily at all though cooked with pork. The same pot, in a much smaller portion for 1 pax, is sold at RM 20 in The Han Room in BSC Mall.

Braised Dong Po Pork (RM 38) with Steamed Bun (RM 3.80)

I just saw steamed bun in Ippudo recently on 22/12 so I thought of eating it here. The pork is so sinful and oily but the sauce is very thick. Hence, I dared not eat much of it.

Lard Rice (RM 4)

This is served almost like beggar style in a claypot material bowl which is just plain white rice with lard oil on top. Nothing special if you ask me.

Kerabu Paku-Pakis (RM 16)

It was my first time eating paku-pakis cold, like an appetizer with sourish preserved cherry tomatoes too. This is one of our favourite dishes too.

Steamed Flying Fish with Greenish Ginger Spread (RM 34)

I always like to order this because it is mix of sour and spiciness with the tender fish.
