Tuck Kee @ Subang Jaya SS15

When we go to Ipoh, we would definitely not give Tuck Kee a miss! Boy were we KL-ites glad when Tuck Kee opened in Uptown Damansara and also now in SS15 Subang Jaya! I brought my parents to the SS15 branch just the day before CNY Eve 2022 so that they can enjoy the best local food before they close for the Chinese New Year.

We ordered the famous Fried Hokkien Mee which was fried with a lot of wok hei.

The Ipoh Bean Sprouts taste better during dine-in as the one I ordered for takeaway was horrible with everything looking blackish!

The Cantonese Koay Teow was to die for!  The gravy was thick and full of eggs. They are also not stingy with the ingredients. We finished every drop of the gravy too!

After 2 years of ordering takeaway Tuck Kee from the Uptown branch, during the MCO Lockdown caused by Covid-19 pandemic, this is the first time we finally ordered the boiled octopus (RM20)

The Stewed Chicken Legs were the only one similar to the one in Penang that I can get in KL and quite cheap at merely RM8.80!

Merton Hotel Ipoh

When we first saw Merton Hotel online, we only booked it because it costs merely RM110 per night. Little did we know it has such a vintage feel that we almost mistaken it for M Boutique Hotel albeit bigger size. It also has a lot of decorations at every nook and corner, which all shouts, Vintage. The only exception is that this is a cheaper version than M Hotel but there is no breakfast provided.

Looking at the lobby alone, it was attractive for instagrammers like me to have a photoshoot, when I am dressed up like a doll, which means I could only take photos the next day.

There is also a boutique linked to the lobby, selling clothes at a discounted price at the point of visit. And then, there was a bubble milk tea shop.

The room was quite spacious compared to M Hotel.

The interior in the top floor, which is actually the 1st floor foyer outside our room door:

Chooi Yue Dim Sum @ Ipoh

Normally most tourists think of Foh San or Ming Court when it comes to  dim sum spots in Ipoh. This time round, I thought of breaking the convention and googled some other dim sum places and decided to try this.

The price was quite reasonable, 8 dim sum items with 2 herbal tea for only RM 59.80 including taxes! Most importantly, there were more varieties with unique flavours unlike Ming Court. And the dim sum, was translucent instead of having thick skin! I also like the fact that they have unique fillings like prawns, abalone, fake fish maw, etc.

The Chee Cheong Fan was just normal.

The Sze Chuan gyoza could not beat the one in Puchong

The only item inedible was the Char Koay Kak which was too soggy in terms of the char kuih and cooked with veges like shredded carrots, bean sprouts etc

We are definitely coming here again! Further more, there were more seats and one need not wait for tables like Ming Court. The environment was quite clean.

Restoran Sun Yoon Wah @Ipoh

There are not many places in Ipoh that opens late into the night. I found some Ipoh blogs talking about the Snow Beer so obviously I must try it, even though I was still full from the STG Tea House dinner.

The Snow Beer (RM18) was only tasty when served cold but after a few minutes, not that great anymore.

Pig Intestine Cooked With Har Mai & Pork Lard (RM24)

The portion was so big and full of intestines that it was scary, though I like organs. Somehow, it felt disgusting. I had similar one in KK but the portion is so small.

Prawn Mantis with Chilli Salt (RM21)

The prawn mantis was not bad. quite tasty but again the big portion made the price worthwhile.
