Ah Gong XO Cuisine

I am a big fan of fish head. This time round I thought of trying this place since I passed by a few times but didn't try it because my friend thought it was not that great after they shifted to new location.

Fish Head Noodles

Obviously we ordered the most famous dish here - XO Fish Head Noodles. The soup was so amazing and I can literally taste the wine inside! It tasted great with thick noodles.

Steamed - 3 types of egg

I am another fan of steamed egg so I ordered this which has 3 types of eggs which are century egg, duck egg and chicken egg.

Pork Rib

The deep fried pork rib was so incredible and sweet and crispy.

Super Kitchen Chilli Pan Mee

It has been 2-3 years since I last came here with my parents. I used to come here with my colleagues. I ordered the signature dry chilli pan mee with a half-boiled egg.

I also ordered my favourite Umbra Juice, which reminded me of Penang.

Chu Cha Dan Fan

Whenever we want to eat Szechuan food at a reasonable price and convenient place, we will come to this place which is near my office.

Chicken Hotpot

The chicken hotpot is cooked in dry style with a lot of dried chillies.

Celery with Tofu

I rarely order this because it reminds me of chap fan. But the dish is quite tasty albeit a bit oily.

Ume Tei

If you haven't already know, my top most favourite food in the world is Japanese. So it means we need to spend a lot of money for this favourite food of mine which cost more than RM 100 per meal. My friend brought me to Ume Tei which he says serves Japanese food at a very reasonable price whereby each set cost only RM 20 ++ to RM 30++. A don can cost only RM 10! This discovery was very much welcomed for me.

I was even more happy when the sashimi set cost only less than RM 30! The sashimi consists of thick fat slices of raw fish like maguro, salmon, octopus.

The Unagi Set was also worth the money paid of RM 40++ . The unagi was cooked with omelette in hot plate. The radish and carrot stew were also tasty.

The best part is that we could have fried garlic rice as a choice. There were kimchi and also mashed pumpkin as sides.

Busaba Thai

Busaba Thai has tasty and original Thai food cooked by Thai people. Here, you are also served by Thai waiters too. The ambience is very exclusive and sophisticated, bringing you back to old British or colonial Thailand. I have tried the Pad Thai here which is so worth the price with big prawns. Today I decided to order the delicious pineapple fried rice which is so fragrant and comes with big prawns and cashewnuts. I also love their lemongrass drink which is cooling, refreshing and fragrant.

Simon's Nyonya

My whole family loves Nyonya food. So since we already had western for lunch, we decided to go for Nyonya dinner at USJ which my parents haven't tried.

Curry Fish Head (RM 35)

The curry is not too diluted like the one in Jalan Puchong and for this amount of ingredients, it is well worth the money spent.

Sambal Petai Prawn

This is one of my favourite and we have been having this 2 days in a row, yesterday being sambal prawn in brickfields.

Stir Fried Vegetables

I like the fact that they have included mushrooms inside.

Baby Octopus Kerabu Salad

I like anything to do with Kerabu and this is just nice, not too sour or spicy. The baby squid is also tasty.

Basil Pasta

It has been more than a year since the last time I have been to Basil Pasta with my ex-boyfriend. Since dad wanted to dine western style in somewhere reasonable, I decided to bring them here today. Mum asked me why the place is not piling with people as I have described? I told her we were probably too early and 10 mins later, the place was crowded and people were waiting for tables till mum said she was shy to eat too long there.

Iced Macadamia (RM 10.90)

This is the best coffee I have ever tried which is the iced macadaemia with a mix of bitterness in it and not too sweet. The price is also cheaper than Starbucks or Coffee Bean.

Seafood Stew (Cacciucco) (RM 15.90)

The seafood stew is very worth the price paid as it contains all the expensive seafood like big prawns, mussels, garlic flakes, cherry tomatoes, garlic bread, squid and some pasta. The soup is also so addictive.

Spaghetti Baby Lobster (RM 29.90)

At first glance, it sounds like a great offer to pay this price for lobster but when it arrives, the lobster was too thin and dry. The sauce is also tasty as it is a fusion of hungarian, italian and indian and many other countries. In fact, if you are interested in cooking, you can read many cook books from the library.

Tuscan Lamb Shank (RM 39.90)

The lamb shank is superb and tender and much better than the one at Porto Romano at Mont Kiara. The lamb is succulent. At the bottom, is a type of flat pasta that makes this dish very filling and special. The mashed potato is deep fried and placed on top instead of at the bottom.

Mille Feuille (RM 14.90)

Imagine paying for fine dining dessert for only RM 14.90? Unbelievable right? The pastry is crispy and neatly made too with cream and also strawberries and grapes in between. Totally heavenly!

Sin Kee (Brickfields)

We just fetched my parents at KL train station and planned to eat somewhere nearby. We googled, "Food Nearby" and found this great place called Sin Kee at Brickfields. It is very suited with the unity in Malaysia whereby this old style Chinese restaurant is located in the middle of many other Indian cafes in Brickfields.

Hainanese Chicken Chop (RM 14)

The chicken chop has a very unique taste. It also has fried potato wedges at the side. The sauce is also unique that is green in colour. There was also baked tomato and canned beans too.

Sambal Udang (RM 14)

The sambal prawns with cucumber are simply amazing! The sauce is also thick.

Stir Fried Vegetables (RM 8)

The vegetables are quite average but seemed to have too much cornflour.

Steamed Fish with Ginger (RM 24)

This is quite special and the flesh is so tender. The sauce is also tasty.

The entire bill came up to a mere RM 56 which is so super cheap in this day and age!

House of Seafood

House of Seafood which is located just beside Cold Storage in One Utama, has an opening promotion, the greatest one of this century of crabs for RM 9.90 per piece and also smoked duck for RM 5.90 per plate. I expected there would be a very long queue but it turned out to be quite ok with a queue of about 10-15 mins. We almost ended up quareling amongst ourselves thinking that we were too late because I woke out too late on Merdeka Day. As usual, One Utama, on a public holiday, was bustling with so many patrons till there was no car park.

Luckily while queuing up. we had the Kyochon Korean fried chicken samples packed in cute little boxes to appease our stomachs.

Mind you, the crabs are very big! Initially, my mother's friend who went there was so shocked about the price that she took a photo of the receipt! But she said that the crab was not fresh enough. Lucky for us, we had a fabulous time eating the delicious and big crabs that are also fresh! There is a choice of either cooking the crab in chilli or salted egg but we could only choose 1 type and minimum and maximum of 3 crabs per table. No splitting of bill is allowed. Every table was eating crab and smoked duck today.

The smoked duck is a very small plate with white and purple cabbage and also mayonaise and sesame sauce. The smoked duck is quite tasty too.

We also ordered Vermicelli Crab (RM 18) for the medium one. It was one of the best vermicelli I have ever tasted with so much vegetables, bean sprouts and egg and also fresh crab!

The Pu Er tea cost RM 3 per person.

B @ Cascades

Of all names, why is it called B? Why not A while we are always in the pursuit of being better to become A, the owner of B @ Cascades feel that pursuit of being first of everything will make us forget a lot of people around us.

B signifies being in-the-moment as life is about opening up to what you are feeling and immersing in the experience of the here and now.

B in the present. B honest. B yourself. In fact, "B" signifies so  many things from : B young. B casual. B formal. B easy. B passionate. B exciting. B hospitable. B social. B friendly. B frenemies. B real. B sweet. B lovely.... and so many more.

B @ Cascades just changed their menu last week hence Chef Vincent spoke with passion that the most interesting thing is that every paper menu has different words such as "First we eat then we do everything else" - which is more suited for women so that they don't watch their diet or "Good food is all the sweeter when shared with friends."

Their menu is made to sound like romance from words like "First Touch" (=appetizer), "Warming Up" with hot soup, "Casual Comfort," "Quick Happiness," (snacks that goes with alcohol taken during happy times), "Sweet endings" and "For the little royalties."

Children would get black and white menu for them to do their colouring with drawings in front whereas their menu consists of non-fried food with fancy names like Goofy Hotdog, Remi's Pasta-Tomato Macaroni, Finding Nemo-Baked Fish Fillet, Lilo and Stitch-Mini Hawaian Pizza and Chicken Little-Chicken Caesar Wrap.

First Touch

Seduktive Salad (RM 19.90)

As the name suggested, I was already seduced by the smoked duck breast with mesclun mix, orange segment and citrus dressing whereby the sourish taste is balanced by the rose prune. This is my all-time favourite as I love duck breast like crazy.

Couple Salmon Salad (RM 21.90)

This contains another favourite of mine, salmon! The word "couple" refers to home cured salmon and also smoked salmon. "Home-cured" means that salmon is marinated with salt and sugar to turn into a special colour. All the other hot food  are served with Garden Salad containing mesclun mix with cherry tomato, julienne carrot and sesame dressing. I really like the fresh salad here.

Warming Up

Seafood Tomato Soup (RM 23.90)

Again they served my favourite tomato soup with fresh seafood like prawns, giant squid, 2 big mussels and scallops. The soup is also very thick and not too sour.

Seafood Platter (RM 188)

This is one of the rare occasions that a restaurant serves seafood platter in such big plate though they mention it is for 4 pax. This is new in the menu for only 3 months. They changed the menu items every few months. The seafood platter contains garden salad, 4 pieces of juicy scampi baked with garlic butter, scallops with balsamic reduction, cheese butter mussels oven-baked with cream sauce, giant squid grilled Japanese style with teriyaki sauce. Also not to be forgotten is the old school fish and chips. I really liked the squid which tasted better than the one grilled at Japanese restaurant. There are 3 types of sauces including tartar sauce, lemon butter sauce, teriyaki sauce and a few slices of lemon.

Premium Platter

This is every meat lover's favourite containing many types of meat like pork, chicken, beef, lamb. There are also deep fried ham which is better than the canned ones. I really like all the meat served here which managed to change my impression of pork. I especially like the tender meat! I cannot even believe it I would say I love pork!

B's Cod in the Act (RM 78.90)

My other personal seafood here in B @ Cascades is the pacific black codfish which is so juicy, tender, soft and succulent. It is served with potato puree and mushroom soil, carrot puree. I totally love the sauteed garden vegetables with truffle-yaki sauce.

B's Indecent Oriental Roulade (RM 38.90)

The chef said this is a dish that either you like it or you don't. Since the other food are deep fried, this is slow-cooked chicken roulade with five spices stuffing, herb crust. Inside the stuffing are sengkuang and also carrot. At the side is carrot puree with mashed potato whereby the carrot puree adds a dash of colour to the plain white potato mash. The fact that the chef design every menu item for a lady who is on a diet, whereby the chicken skin for the roulade is removed, is very considerate.

B's Spanish Shoulder (RM 78.90)

This is one of the food items that B @ Cascades is famous for. It has soy sauce marinated iberico pork shoulder  with mashed potato, carrot puree and also sauteed garden vegetables. I also like the thinly sliced pork. Iberico is different from the normal black pig. It is only found in the area between Spain and Iberia. Iberian pig is very fat till it has jaw whereas normal pig only has cheek. Iberico pig also east very high quality food.

B's Babelicious Pork Burger (RM 32.90)

This is homemade pork patties with pig caul, pork bacon, sliced cheddar, caramelised onion, honey mustard saucee, mayonaise and sandwiched between brioche bun. The pork patty is out of the ordinary as it it not as hard, coarse, and also oily like those in the rest of the fast food joints. There are also letttuce, cherry tomato and garden salad with french fries at the side.

B's Style Aglio Olio : With Scallop RM 48.90, With prawn RM 38.90

The difference between this aglio olio and the Spicy Bacon aglio olio is whereby B's Style is cooked using cili padi hence the spiciness.

On the other hand, Spicy Bacon spaghetti (RM 32.90) is cooked using small pork bacon chips, garlic, dried chilli, extra virgin oil and parsley. Sundried tomato is used to create natural fragrance and sourness.

11'' Hot Pizza

B's Smoked Duck Pizza (RM 32.90)

All the pizzas here are thin crusted. The smoked duck pizza is my favourite pizza as the duck breast makes it very juicy and the juices beautifully blends into the mozzarella cheese. There are also a lot of capsicum, olives, arugula and tomato sauce used. I personally prefer this to the margherita.

Pizza De Chorizo (RM 35.90)

Rather than using the usual pepperoni, the chef decided to use chorizo ham which lends a little spicy taste.

Quick Happiness

Bacon Bomb (RM 24.90)

Pork bacons are baked with mozarella cheese and also a little bird's eye to add the spiciness.

Crispy Fried Butterfly Anchovies (RM 18.90)

The name "butterfly" name is due to tenderloin cut into two is called butterly cut. It is then fried using 7 spices with garlic powder and rosemary. This is best eaten with alcohol.

For the Little Royalties

Chicken Little - Chicken Caesar Wrap (RM 18.90)

The caesar wrap is quite tasty and most importantly, very healthy without too much mayonaise like how others normally do it.

Sweet Endings

Peanut Butter Cheese with Blushing Raspberry Puree (RM 23.90)

I didn't taste the peanut butter much but I felt a little creaminess of it but thank god there was too much cream inside. It taste delicious with the strawberry, raspberry and blueberry.

Creme Brulee (RM 21.90)

The creme brulee is just nice and not too creamy as how I usually dislike.

Blissful Chocolate Brownies with Vanilla Ice-Cream (RM 21.90)

The chocolate brownies were warm and tasted so good with the vanilla ice-cream. The brownies were also not too sweet and had walnuts inside.
